Loveden area of Lincolnshire – Local History & Information

Albert McCreary

Albert Wilfred McCreary was born in Southend on Sea in 1916.  His parents were Albert Edward Frederick McCreary and Grace Eveline (nee Bamlet).  His father was an equipment officer in the RAF, which may explain why they moved to Hough.  Albert (the son) married Grace Ellen Ford in 1939 (Grantham registration district).  He was a Captain in the Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) when he was killed in Italy on 29 Jan 1944, aged 28.

He was buried at Minturno War Cemetry, 78km north of Naples, close to the coast.  Most of those buried died during fights to establish a crossing of the River Garigliano during the early stages of the battle for Monte Cassino.
