Summerfield & Ellis Families

Elizabeth Summerfield was born in 1872 at Sandlands Farm, near Brandon.  She was the daughter of Charles Summerfield and Mary (nee Blackbourn).  By 1891 Charles had died and Mary had re-married, to Robert Saunders, a shepherd from Brandon.

Mary married Charles Ellis (born Carlton on Trent, Notts) in 1902 and for a while they lived in Brandon, possibly in Church Farm Cottage.

At some point after 1911 they moved to Osbournby, where Charles worked as a miller.  He died in Boston hospital in 1928 after a motorcycle accident near Wigtoft.  Mary survived the crash and died in Osbournby in 1940.  They had 5 children:

  • Olive Summerfield Ellis (born 1900 in Peterborough, in Brandon on the 1911 census)
  • Kathleen Ellis. Born in Brandon in 1903.  Married Herbert Patman in 1921 and lived in Osbournby.
  • Caroline Ellis.  Born in Brandon in 1905.  Married Arthur Thompson.  She died in 1961.
  • Ethel Dora Ellis (known as Dodie).  She was born in Brandon in 1908 and married a Mr Lanckham in Sleaford in 1941.  She died 1997.
  • Charles Henry Ellis was born in Brandon in 1910.  He married Olive Camm in 1935.  He died in Spilsby in 1989.
